A bit about me
I was born in Germany, the son of Spanish Immigrants. When we moved back to Spain, I started my training in Eastern Martial Arts which I have continued for a good part of my life. As a young man, I envisioned for myself a life of military service, so being naive and crazy enough, I joined the Spanish Foreign Legion at age 18, volunteering for the Special Operations Battalion (B.O.E.L.). I earned my Special Operations Diploma (Green Beret) there at age 19. Later I transitioned over to another branch of the Spanish Military, the Guardi Civil Police Force where I trained in mountain rescue but ended up specializing and working in personal protection (bodyguard) for the Spanish Royal House. But life had other plans for me…
I loved my job, but I couldn’t stand life in the big city (Madrid), and this coupled with a dose of heartbreak made me abandon my career, my life, and everything I had, to embrace a life of travelling, uncertainty, and adventure. After a short period living in the Pyrenee Mountains, building and selling bows, I restored an old sailboat with my best friend and set off on a tour around the world. But life had other plans for me, again…
After crossing the Atlantic and sailing into the Amazon River, we lost our boat, all our possessions, and almost our lives after a large river barge rammed and sunk it. Not wanting to move back to Spain, I went to a little cabin in the Canadian bush that I had bought a couple years earlier. Using it as a base camp for my travels across the North American continent, I dove full time into a career as a primitive skills researcher, visiting masters and elders, and training to expand my skill set. I have written numerous articles on the subject, and am currently working on a book. I have participated in a few film projects and History Channel’s Alone show, season 2.
At some point it came to me that being the descendant of some of the most warlike people on earth, there must be a martial tradition in my own ancestry, so why was l only training in the martial tradition of somebody else’s ancestors. This brought me into Western Martial Arts and ultimately into a career as a Medieval Full Contact fighter. Now it is time for me to pass on the teachings that have helped me grow as a man and a human being in my life: The philosophy of the Way of the Warrior, Native Spirituality both American and European, and the skills and mindset to reconnect with nature and human nature. I hope these teachings will serve you as well as they have served me.
